Mark Kratzmann (born May 17, 1966 in Murgon , Queensland ) is a former Australian tennis player .

Career

Kratzmann was trained at the Australian Institute of Sport by tennis legends Tony Roche and John Newcombe , among others . In 1983 he won the junior competitions of the French Open and Wimbledon with doubles partner Simon Youl . The following year he won the double title of the Australian Open with Mike Baroch in the junior division . In 1984 he won the junior competitions of the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open and took first place in the junior world rankings.

In 1984 he became a professional tennis player, reaching the quarter-finals of the Challenger tournament of Perth . He won his first double title on the ATP World Tour alongside Kim Warwick in Cincinnati . In 1994 he won his last doubles tournament on the ATP World Tour with his brother Andrew in Adelaide . Overall, he won 18 ATP doubles titles with Wally Masur and Darren Cahill , including the Masters tournament in Cincinnati and three tournaments in the ATP International Series gold . Another twelve times he was in a double final. He reached his highest ranking in the ATP world rankings in 1990 with position 50 in singles and fifth in doubles.

His best result in a Grand Slam tournament in singles he achieved in 1987 at the Australian Open when he made it to the round of 16. In doubles he was in the final of the Australian Open in 1989 ; at the side of Darren Cahill he was defeated there by the Americans Rick Leach and Jim Pugh .

Kratzmann also played three doubles games for the Australian Davis Cup team between 1990 and 1991 . At the side of Cahill he contributed to the final against the United States by double successes; in the final, which ended in a 2-3 defeat, however, Pat Cash and John Fitzgerald played doubles. The following year he lost with Todd Woodbridge in the quarterfinals against the French doubles Guy Forget and Henri Leconte .
