Brad Drewett (born July 19, 1958 in Maclean , Clarence Valley Council , New South Wales , † May 3, 2013 in Sydney ) was an Australian tennis player .

Life

Drewett won the Australian Open junior title in 1975 and 1977 . In 1981 he was able to win his first of a total of seven double tournaments on the ATP World Tour alongside Erik van Dillen . In 1982 he won his first of two individual titles in Cairo , four more times he was in a final. He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1984 with position 34 in singles and in 1988 with position 18 in doubles.

His best individual result in a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the quarter-finals at the Australian Open 1976, which he won twice in the junior competition. In the doubles competition he reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open in 1988 and 1989 at the side of Marty Davis .

Drewett was appointed to the Australian Davis Cup team once in 1980 and played the doubles game alongside Mark Edmondson in the 5-0 win over Japan . Although they won the game, he was subsequently no longer considered.

Drewett was married and had two children. After the end of his professional career, he became self-employed as a businessman , he also worked as a commentator for the Australian television station Channel 9 . Between 1999 and 2003 he was Executive Vice President and since 2006 Chief Executive Officer of ATP . He has also been the tournament director of the ATP World Tour Finals since 2001 . From the beginning of 2012 Drewett was President and Executive Chairman of the ATP.

Drewett was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, also Lou Gehrig syndrome or Charcot disease) on January 14, 2013 . He died on May 3, 2013.
