This article deals with the men's tournament in Brisbane, for the women's tournament see
WTA Brisbane .
The Brisbane ATP tournament (officially: Brisbane International ; from 1987 to 1992 Queensland Open ) was an Australian men's tennis tournament . It was first set up on indoor hard courts in Brisbane , Queensland in 1987 and was discontinued in 1992. In 2009 it was held again as the successor to the Adelaide tournament. The competition had a 32 field in singles and a 16 field in doubles, was played on outdoor hard courts and was part of the ATP Tour 250 . Brisbane was one of three tournaments, along with Doha and Chennai , that opened the tennis season; the event was held together with the women's competition in early January, two weeks before the Australian Open . Since the game was played on the same surface as in Melbourne, the tournament was considered good preparation for the first Grand Slam tournament of the year. In 2019 the tournament was discontinued in favor of the ATP Cup , which will take place at the same time in the same place. The women's tournament, however, will continue. Instead, the tournament was held again in Adelaide.
The tournament has been held at the Queensland Tennis Center since the move from Adelaide , and the Center Court is located in a stadium named after the Queensland tennis player Patrick Rafter . In singles Andy Murray is the only multiple title winner with two successes, in doubles Todd Woodbridge , Marc Gicquel , Daniel Nestor and John Peers are record winners with two titles each.
