Gianluca Pozzi (born June 17, 1965 in Bari , Apulia ) is a former Italian tennis player .

Life

Pozzi became a professional tennis player in 1984 and initially played at Challenger and Satellite tournaments, three years later he won his first of a total of eleven wins at a Challenger tournament in Dublin . On the ATP World Tour he was able to win a tournament in a double competition ( ATP Newport ) and in a singles ( ATP Brisbane ), each time he was in a final. He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 2001 with position 40 in singles and in 1991 with position 107 in doubles. His best individual result at a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the round of 16 at Wimbledon and at the US Open . In doubles he reached the second round of the Australian Open in 1990 .

Pozzi played four individual games for the Italian Davis Cup team between 1998 and 1999 , he suffered two defeats in two wins. In the final defeat against Sweden in 1998, he lost to Magnus Gustafsson . At the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney , he played for Italy, but was eliminated in the second round against Karim Alami .
