Javier Alberto Frana Maggi (born December 25, 1966 in Rafaela ) is a retired Argentine tennis player .

Career

Frana became a professional tennis player in 1986 and was in the final of an ATP tournament for the first time the following year in Barcelona with Christian Miniussi . In 1988 he won his first double title on the ATP Tour, again alongside Miniussi. In total, he came to seven double titles in the course of his career, another nine times he was in the finals of a double competition. In 1991 he won his first of three individual titles on the ATP World Tour in Guarujá . He reached his highest scores in the world rankings in 1995 with position 30 in singles and in 1992 with position 14 in doubles.

His best individual results in Grand Slam tournaments were the round of 16 participation at the French Open and the US Open in 1994. In the 1991 season he reached the round of 16 at the US Open, the semi-finals at the French Open and the finals of the doubles competition in Wimbledon he was defeated by the pairing John Fitzgerald / Anders Järryd at the side of Leonardo Lavalle . In 1996 he won the mixed title of the French Open together with Patricia Tarabini .

Frana played 17 singles and 20 doubles games between 1986 and 1997 for the Argentine Davis Cup team . At the quarter-finals against Germany in 1990 , he won the doubles against Eric Jelen and Michael Stich alongside Gustavo Luza and thus contributed significantly to Argentina’s 3-2 victory. When the two countries met again the following year, he lost both singles against Stich and Boris Becker and the doubles alongside Christian Miniussi, giving Germany a 5-0 revenge.

Frana competed three times in the Olympics for Argentina. In 1988 he lost to his compatriot Martín Jaite in the second round , and in 1992 he lost to Fabrice Santoro . In his last appearance at the 1996 Olympics , he was eliminated in the first round against Greg Rusedski . In 1992 he won the bronze medal in men's doubles alongside Christian Miniussi . At the Pan American Games in Mar del Plata in 1995 , he secured the gold medal alongside Luis Lobo .
