Diego Nargiso (born March 15, 1970 in Naples ) is a former Italian tennis player .

Life

Nargiso moved with his parents to Monte Carlo at the age of 13 , where he became a member of the Monte Carlo Country Club . There he trained with Björn Borg and Guillermo Vilas, among others . In 1987 he won the Wimbledon junior tournament against Jason Stoltenberg . He also reached the finals in the double competition. In the same year he became a professional tennis player.

He initially played in Challenger tournaments and was able to reach the final of the Munich tournament that same year . In 1988 he reached a semi-final on the ATP World Tour for the first time , and he was also in the final of three tournaments in double competition . He won his first double title in 1990 alongside Omar Camporese in Milan , and the following year he won the Heilbronn Challenger Tournament against Markus Zoecke . In 1993 he was in a final of an ATP tournament for the only time in his career, but lost to Sergi Bruguera in Bordeaux . In total, he was able to win five double tournaments in the course of his career. He reached his highest score in the tennis world rankings in 1988 with position 67 in singles and in 1990 with position 25 in doubles. In Grand Slam tournaments, he never got past the third round in singles. In doubles he reached the quarter-finals at the US Open in 1993 .

Nargiso played seven singles and 25 doubles games for the Italian Davis Cup team between 1988 and 2000 , playing his first game at the age of 17. In the 4-1 defeat in the final against Sweden in 1998 he lost to Davide Sanguinetti against Jonas Björkman and Nicklas Kulti . In the insignificant last individual, he won in two sets against Magnus Norman . At the Summer Olympics in Seoul in 1988 , he competed for Italy and was eliminated in the second round against the future silver medalist Tim Mayotte .
