The Italian Davis Cup team is the national tennis team of Italy . It is organized by the Federazione Italiana Tennis . The Davis Cup is the most important competition for national teams in men's tennis, analogous to the Fed Cup for women.

history

Italy has played in the Davis Cup since 1922 . In 1960 the team reached the final for the first time, but had to admit defeat to the Australian team 1: 4. The following year the Italians reached the final again, but lost (again against Australia) 0-5. It wasn't until 1976 that they managed to win the Davis Cup. They faced Chile in the final and won 5-0. In 1977 they lost again to Australia 5-0. In 1979 and 1980 they both reached the finals, but could not prevail. The last entry into the finals was in 1998 when they had to admit defeat to the Swedish team.

The Italian team

So far 71 players have played for Italy. The youngest player ever to be used in an encounter with Italy was Diego Nargiso at 17 years and 327 days on February 5, 1988.
