Paolo Lorenzi (born December 25, 1981 in Rome ) is an Italian tennis player .
Career
Between 2000 and 2002, Lorenzi only played future tournaments. After winning his first tournament in Valpovo in 2003, he sought his luck at Challenger tournaments . The first successes came at the end of 2005 and in 2006 he won his first tournament in this category in Tarragona . With that he reached the top 200 for the first time and ended the year in 165th place.
2007 was less successful, mostly at the Challenger tournaments in the second round. He achieved a respectable success at the ATP tournament in Barcelona when he defeated his compatriot Stefano Galvani after qualifying in round one . The following year, Lorenzi initially played a few future tournaments again, after a victory in Trento he returned to the Challenger series and won the tournament in Alessandria until the end of the year . In the following four years he won eight other tournaments on the Challenger Tour.
On February 10, 2013, he won with Potito Starace in Vina del Mar for his first title on the ATP World Tour . In 2014 he reached the individual finals in São Paulo , his first on the ATP World Tour. He was defeated by Federico Delboni in three sets . He made his second final entry at the Generali Open 2016 in Kitzbühel . With the win against Nikolos Bassilaschwili , he became the oldest player to date to win his first title on the World Tour, at the time he was 34 years old.
