Andreas Seppi (born February 21, 1984 in Bozen , South Tyrol ) is an Italian tennis player who lives in Kaltern on the Weinstrasse. Seppi has played for the Italian Davis Cup team since 2004 . On June 18, 2011, he won his first tournament on the ATP World Tour . At the ATP tournament in Eastbourne , he benefited in the third set, while in the lead, from the abandonment of his opponent Janko Tipsarević . He was also in the final of the double competition, which he lost on June 19. The fourth and last edition of the Serbia Open in 2012 was clearly won by Seppi; he won the Kremlin Cup that same year in three straight sets. This makes him the first Italian to have won an ATP World Tour tournament on each surface, but on the other hand, he has already lost a final on all three surfaces. In addition, Seppi has already reached the round of 16 in a Grand Slam tournament on every surface .
Life
Seppi was born in Bozen on February 21, 1984 and has lived in Kaltern since his birth. Beginnings
In 2001 Seppi played his first ITF tournaments and won the first world ranking points. In 2002 Seppi switched to the professional camp and played tournaments on the ATP Challenger Tour , he finished the year in 353th place (doubles: 345). In 2003 Seppi also played a few tournaments on the ATP Tour . He finished the year in 240th position. In 2004 he qualified for a Grand Slam tournament for the first time . At the US Open he was able to defeat Rainer Schüttler , who was in 11th position , and finish the year in 146th place. Seppi moved into the top 100 for the first time on May 16, 2005 (77th place); he had to get in the quarterfinals of the ATP Masters tournament from Hamburg to the eventual finalists Richard Gasquet beaten. The year ended Seppi in 68th place. The year 2006 he started with a quarter-finals at the ATP tournament in Adelaide and a semi-finals in Sydney , where he defeated defending champion Lleyton Hewitt in the quarter-finals . He improved to 51st place in the ranking and ended the year at 74th place. At the ATP Challenger Series in Bergamo , Seppi won both the singles and (together with Davis Cup partner Simone Bolelli ) the doubles competition. He started the year with 659 ATP points and ranked 50th (third place in Italy). With 150 points for the third round at Wimbledon , he achieved more than 1000 ATP points (1055) for the first time and placed 27th in the world rankings. With a total of 90 points from the last two ATP 1000 tournaments of the season, he came to 900 ATP points and 49th in the individual world rankings at the end of the year. At the end he decided to take part in the Italian club championship with Capri, where two other top players were under contract with Potito Starace and Filippo Volandri . With these professionals, the club won the championship again.
2010
For 2010 Seppi had big plans; he therefore announced his temporary resignation from the Davis team in February. At the beginning of the year (until March 22nd) he was able to defend the individual points and stay constant at 900 points. After that, Seppi experienced a short dry spell when he never got past the second round on the ATP Tour. At a Challenger tournament in Turin (June) he injured his shoulder and had to give up in the second round (double: quarterfinals). At ATP Båstad Seppi got back into the tour and reached the quarterfinals, in which he lost in three sets to defending champion Robin Söderling , although he served twice to win the set. In doubles with Simone Vagnozzi , he reached the final. At the German Open in Hamburg, Seppi reached the semi-finals for the second time (the seventh time in total), which he lost in two sets against number three in the tournament, Jürgen Melzer .
At the tournament in Umag , Croatia , Seppi reached the semi-finals in the second tournament in a row. At the tournament of the ATP Challenger Tour in Kitzbühel he was top seeded as in the previous year in San Marino and was able to win the tournament. At the ATP 500 tournament in Tokyo he only reached the second round in singles, in doubles he made it to the final with Dmitri Tursunow , which they clearly lost 3: 6, 2: 6. At the Shanghai Masters , Seppi failed in the round of 16 against Federer after defeating Marin Čilić, seeded 14th , 6-2, 6-2 in the first round . With 90 points from Shanghai, Seppi climbed back into the top 50 and again took the lead in the Italian rankings. In the indoor tournaments in Vienna , Stockholm and Valencia , Seppi could only record one victory (in Vienna against Martin Fischer ). At the Paris Masters he even failed in the first round of qualification. As in 2009, Seppi ended the season with 900 points in 52nd place as the second best Italian.

After Australia he took a short break, as in the previous year, and then played the Challenger in Bergamo for the third time . He won the tournament for the second time (after 2008) and only had to give up a set in the final. Thanks to the 90 points Seppi improved with 980 points on 47th place of the ranking . In the following two tournaments he only had to defend the 20 points for the second round in Marseille ; with the bonus for winning the first round, the sum of his prize money then rose to over three million dollars. At the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami, Seppi gave up in the second round against Oleksandr Dolhopolow when the score was 1: 6, 3: 5. The metatarsal injury forced him to cancel the clay court tournaments in Monte Carlo , Barcelona and Belgrade . The AEGON International 2011 in Eastbourne, which is part of the ATP World Tour 250, he then won with a final victory over Janko Tipsarević , who gave up in the third set when the score was 5: 3 for Seppi. In doubles he reached the final with Grigor Dimitrov , which was played a day later in the London borough of Roehampton , where the qualification for the Wimbledon tournament also took place, where Seppi had previously contested the semifinals and the final in the individual competition; they lost 3: 6 and 3: 6. In the individual, Seppi made up 13 places and reached 38th place.
In Wimbledon , Seppi again reached the second round in singles ; in doubles he could not repeat the previous year's success (second round). With Alberta Brianti he appeared in mixed for the first time and failed in the second round against the eventual winners Iveta Benešová and Jürgen Melzer. Since he made up two places and Fabio Fognini lost six places, Seppi took back first place in the national ranking. In the short clay court season that followed, Seppi was only able to defend 90 of the almost 300 points and fell back to 52nd place (second place in Italy). In the preparation phase for the US Open, Seppi was only able to play two games due to health problems; he then also lost in lap one, but he was able to hold onto position 51, which allowed Potito Starace (50) to overtake him in the world rankings. In St. Petersburg , Seppi failed in the quarter-finals against the eventual winner Marin Čilić , where he could not use a match point to 7: 9 in the tie-break in the second set. At the ATP tournament in Basel and at the Paris Masters , he failed in the round of 16 against the later finalists Kei Nishikori and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga; he finished the year in 38th place (first in Italy). Explanation of symbols: S = tournament victory; F, HF, VF, AF = entry into the final / semi-finals / quarter-finals / round of 16; 1R, 2R, 3R = elimination in the 1st / 2nd / 3rd main round; RR = Round Robin (group stage)
1 tournament round in brackets means that the player has not yet finished the tournament; it shows its current tournament status.
2 before 2009 Tennis Masters Cup
3 The Masters tournament in Madrid was played on hard court from 2002 to 2009, and in 2009 the surface was changed to clay.
4 The Hamburg tournament has not been part of the Masters series since 2009.
5 PO = playoff (promotion and relegation round in the Davis Cup world group).
6 In contrast to the ATP ranking , only tournaments of the ATP World Tour as well as the four Grand Slam tournaments and the ATP World Tour Finals are counted here (as is the case with the number of finals and titles) . H. no Challenger or Future tournaments and no team competitions ( Davis Cup or World Team Cup ). However, the latter count in the win / lose statistics.
7 No more ATP tournaments have been held on carpet since the 2009 season.
8 As of the end of the 2017 season
