Christopher Kas (born June 13, 1980 in Trostberg ) is a former German tennis player who is now active as a trainer and TV expert.

Career

As a single player, Kas, son of journalist Karlheinz Kas , achieved his highest ranking in professional tennis on November 4, 2002 as number 224 in the world rankings; however, there were no major successes. From 2005 he therefore concentrated on doubles and won several Challenger tournaments together with his regular partner Philipp Petzschner . In their first appearance at an ATP tournament , Kas and Petzschner reached the semi-finals straight away in February 2006 in Marseille . In September 2008, Kas and Philipp Kohlschreiber won the double tournament in Stuttgart by beating Mischa Zverev and Michael Berrer in the final . In 2009 he won the Halle lawn tournament with Kohlschreiber and the Bangkok tournament with Viktor Troicki in 2010 . He was in a final 15 times, so u. a. 2006 in Båstad (with Oliver Marach ) and Amersfoort (with Lucas Arnold Ker ), 2007 in Kitzbühel and Vienna (each with Tomas Behrend ), 2008 in Zagreb (with Rogier Wassen ) and in Basel (with Philipp Kohlschreiber), again in Zagreb in 2009 (again with Rogier Wassen), 2010 in Stuttgart (with Philipp Petzschner) and 2011 in Delray Beach (with Alexander Peya ) and in Munich (with Andreas Beck ). In 2011 he was also part of the German team when Germany won the World Team Cup , and was used twice in the preliminary round . In 2013 he was able to achieve two more tournament victories. In Doha and Kitzbühel he won with Kohlschreiber and with Martin Emmrich .

He achieved his best result at a Grand Slam tournament in 2011 at Wimbledon alongside Peya. He was also in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open 2012 and the US Open 2008 . He achieved his best placement in doubles at the beginning of 2012 when he was 17th in the world rankings .

In 2012 he took part in the Olympic Games . In the men's doubles with Philipp Petzschner, he lost in the first round to Nikolai Dawydenko and Michail Juschny , who competed for Russia, 5: 7, 5: 7. In mixed he competed with Sabine Lisicki ; they had never played together before and reached the semi-finals, in which they were defeated by the British Laura Robson and Andy Murray with 1: 6, 7: 6, [7:10]. In the match for bronze they had to admit defeat, against the Americans Lisa Raymond and Mike Bryan they lost 3: 6, 6: 4, [4:10]. In 2014 Christopher Kas ended his professional career in Vienna .

Kas also played in five games for the German Davis Cup team , for which he has a score of 2: 5. In the German 1st Bundesliga he played for TC Piding from 2005 and competed for TC Blau-Weiss Halle from 2006 to 2014 . With Halle he was German team champion in 2006 and 2014 and runner- up in 2009 to 2013 . In 2015 he played for TC Großhesselohe in the 2nd tennis Bundesliga and since 2016 in the men's 30 Bundesliga . Since 2016 he has also been the team manager of the club with which he was promoted to the Bundesliga in 2018 .

For the 2015 season he was hired by Sabine Lisicki as a trainer, who he was in charge of until May 2016. From June 2016 to May 2019 he trained Mona Barthel . He has been Peter Gojowczyk's coach since October 2019 . Kas is also active as a TV expert.
