Karsten Braasch (born July 14, 1967 in Marl ) is a former German tennis player .

Tennis career

Braasch won six double titles in his career. In the ATP world rankings he reached his highest positions in 1994 in singles with 38th place and in 1997 in doubles as their number 36. From 2000 onwards, he entered the professional tour exclusively in doubles competitions. In 1997 and 2004 he reached the quarter-finals in doubles at the French Open . In early 2005 he ended his professional career. Since 2006 he has been looking after tennis professionals from time to time on behalf of Klaus Langenbach.

For Germany, he was used in both the Davis Cup and the World Team Cup , which he won in 1994 alongside Michael Stich , Bernd Karbacher and Patrik Kühnen . In these competitions he was a double partner of Michael Stich, with whom he also won the double title in 1997 in Halle , Westphalia .

A curious peculiarity in the course of his career was an exhibition match in 1998 at the Australian Open against the two Williams sisters. He defeated Serena Williams 6-1 and against Venus Williams he won 6-2. The games were not taken very seriously on any side; the outcome can be viewed as an indication of the differences in physical performance in women's and men's tennis.

His unconventional style of play, especially the sequence of movements when serving, always caused a sensation on the ATP Tour and not infrequently secured him the sympathy of the audience.
