Jens Knippschild (born February 15, 1975 in Arolsen ) is a former German tennis player .

Life

In his career, Knippschild won two ATP tournaments in doubles, in 2001 the Swedish Open with Karsten Braasch and in 2002 the Romanian Open with Peter Nyborg . He reached his highest world ranking position in 1999 with rank 76. In the following year he achieved his best individual result on the ATP World Tour with the final of the Newport ATP tournament . On the ATP Challenger Tour he was able to win five individual titles.

His best individual result in a Grand Slam tournament was his entry into the 1998 round of 16 of the French Open . In Grand Slam tournaments, he played seven five-set games, all of which he won. In the doubles competition, he reached the quarter-finals of the French Open in 1997 and the second round of the other three Grand Slam tournaments once.

Knippschild was appointed to the German Davis Cup team twice, in 1997 and 2001. On his first appearance in the first round encounter against Mexico , he won both his singles and doubles alongside Marc-Kevin Goellner . In the quarter-finals against the Netherlands he lost with David Prinosil in doubles against Paul Haarhuis and Sjeng Schalken .
