history

Until the church is planted

Stoufun is mentioned for the first time in a document by the St. Gallen Monastery on December 20, 868 . Since the peace treaties of Brno and Pressburg in 1805, the place has belonged to Bavaria. It was formerly part of the county of Königsegg-Rothenfels , which the owners exchanged for goods in Hungary in 1804. On February 12, 1921, the municipality of Staufen was officially renamed Oberstaufen . The communities of Aach, Oberstaufen and Thalkirchdorf used to form a unit with Stiefenhofen and were split up in 1808. In 1818 the community came into being.

20th century

In 1949, the spa doctor Hermann Brosig introduced the Schroth healing cure. With the award of the title “Schroth health resort” on November 30, 1959, Oberstaufen was officially recognized as the only Schroth health resort in the Federal Republic of Germany. On December 10, 1969, Oberstaufen was recognized as a climatic health resort . Since 1991, Oberstaufen has achieved the highest German level of health resort classification without claiming the addition of "Bad": Schroth- Heilbad .
Oberstaufen is also a member of the German-Austrian joint project Naturpark Nagelfluhkette .

Population development

Between 1988 and 2018 the municipality grew from 6,404 to 7,770 by 1,366 inhabitants or 21.3%.

Incorporations

In 1970, parts of the area that previously belonged to the Stiefenhofen community were incorporated into Oberstaufen and in 1972 they were merged with Aach im Allgäu and Thalkirchdorf to form the new Oberstaufen community.

The letters S and T are supposed to recall the image in the court seal of the Staufen rule from the early 18th century. The Bavarian national colors were used at the top, a stylized representation of Staufen Castle at the bottom.

On March 31, 1836, the coat of arms was first awarded to the Oberstaufen market by King Ludwig I. On August 29, 1986, the Swabian government agreed to continue the coat of arms of the former Oberstaufen market.
