Life

Even at a young age, the talent for alpine winter sports was enthusiastic. Despite the objection of the youth officer of the BSV , she took part in the German slalom championships on the Laber near Oberammergau in 1957 as the reigning German youth champion in the senior class. In the giant slalom , she immediately took third place in the overall ranking, while she was disqualified in the combined competition. Henneberger was appointed to the greatly rejuvenated national team and took part in the first training course on the Zugspitze in October 1957 under coach Engelbert Haider .

In 1962 and 1963 she was German champion in downhill skiing and giant slalom , in 1960 and 1962 in combined and 1964 in slalom. There were also ten runner-up championships and she was third five times. In 1962 she became the student world champion.

She celebrated her greatest triumph at the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley as a bronze medalist in slalom. In the combination that only counted for the world championships, she also achieved the bronze medal. The Federal Republic of Germany honored her with the silver bay leaf . In 1963 she won the SDS races in Grindelwald in downhill, slalom and combined. With her and Heidi Biebl , there were two medalists in skiing at the 1960 Winter Olympics , who were born in the small town of Oberstaufen in the Allgäu (at that time approx. 4,500 inhabitants). Henneberger announced her resignation for the time after the Olympic Games in Innsbruck , since she would then be 23 years old and devote herself entirely to her American studies .
