Wilhelm Hermann Björn ("Willy") Bogner junior (born January 23, 1942 in Munich ) is a former German ski racer , filmmaker , designer , owner of the clothing company Willy Bogner GmbH & Co. KGaA and the son of Willy Bogner senior .

Skiing

Bogner was one of the best German ski racers in the 1960s. He was trained by Stein Eriksen in Chile in the summer of 1959 . On January 9, 1960, he surprisingly won the descent of the Lauberhorn race with 1.8 seconds ahead of Josef Stiegler , with start no. 25 also benefited from the improved conditions. Thanks to rank 8 in the slalom on January 10th, he finished second in the combination. He was only 3 tenths of a second short of overall victory, although he drove too cautiously in the second run, as the press reports (in the specific case «Sport-Magazin Nürnberg») revealed.
At the 1960 Olympic Games in Squaw Valley , he led after the first round in the slalom with a second advantage over the simultaneous Charles Bozon and François Bonlieu , but could not withstand the pressure and was eliminated in the second round. He was ninth in downhill skiing.

1962 followed at the world championships in Chamonix the sixth place in the combination and at the student world championships the double victory in slalom and combination. In 1964, Bogner again finished ninth in the downhill race at the Olympic Games in Innsbruck . In the same year he won a downhill of the 3-Tre race in Madonna di Campiglio . At the 1966 World Championships in Portillo , Bogner finished fourth in slalom and fifth in combination. Between 1960 and 1966 he won five German championships in downhill, slalom (2) and combination (2).

After his career as a ski racer, Bogner devoted himself to fashion and worked in the company of his father Willy Bogner senior, which he took over in 1977 after his father's death. To this day, Bogner equips the German national alpine ski team and the German teams at the Olympic Winter Games .

Other sporting successes

Downhill victory on August 6, 1963 at the “22. Andenkandahar ”(on the slopes of the Potrerillos in Portillo) in front of Fritz Wagnerberger and CB Vaughn (USA).

Movie and TV

He also made a name for himself as a filmmaker and shot several sports films. In 1969 he first worked for Eon Productions Ltd. in the James Bond film Works as a ski cameraman for Her Majesty's Secret Service . The ski action scenes of the film, which are distributed by United Artists , received great recognition due to technical innovations and their unconventional use (Bogner, among other things, rode backwards on special skis with the camera in front of the skiers). In other Bond films, The Spy Who Loved Me , In A Deadly Mission and In The Face of Death , he directed the recording of the skiing sequences. In 1985 he received the Bambi and in 1986 the Bavarian Film Prize for his film Fire and Ice .

On April 12, 1964, a group of 14 world-class skiers led by Bogner triggered an avalanche while filming a ski film he had produced in the Engadine Val Selin below the Trais Fluors , the air pressure of which caused a second avalanche to descend on the opposite slope. Several members of the group were buried. Bogner's then partner Barbara Henneberger and the American Wallace Werner could only be rescued dead. Since the group had been warned several times of the high avalanche danger, Bogner was sentenced to a two-month conditional prison sentence for negligent homicide.

On December 15 and 16, 2006, Bogner co- hosted the TV total parallel slalom on the TV station ProSieben . In 2006 he was awarded the Bavarian Sports Prize in the high-performance athlete plus category.

On November 6, 2009, the shareholders of the Munich Application Company 2018 GmbH decided to appoint him as a further managing director and also chairman of the board of management on November 15, 2009 for the candidacy to host the 2018 Winter Olympics . He resigned from this position on September 6, 2010 for health reasons.

Private

On December 15, 1972, Bogner married the Brazilian model Sônia Ribeiro , a sister of the actress Florinda Bolkan . The couple adopted two Brazilian children, Florinda, who works as a dog trainer, and Bernhard. A third adopted child, Maria-Isabell, died as a toddler. On October 1st, 2005, Bernhard committed suicide at the age of seventeen. On the night of May 3, 2017, Sônia Bogner died of cancer at the age of 66 after a serious illness.
