occupation

Fire and Ice is a sports film by director Willy Bogner from 1986 .

action

On a ski trip to Aspen, John meets the extremely attractive Suzy. He met her again by chance in New York and followed her across the United States. It disappears again, and only in the mountains is there a final reunion with a happy ending.

The plot is secondary. The director and cameraman Bogner wanted to show the most spectacular ski scenes possible, accompanied by appropriate music. The actors race down a bobsleigh run on skis. In addition to Aspen, the scenes are also St. Moritz and the Streif in Kitzbühel . The film repeatedly shows product placements by the ski fashion manufacturer Bogner.

actor

In addition to the two main actors John Eaves and Suzy Chaffee , numerous young talents from the 1980s ski, snowboard, trick ski, hangglider and surf scene play a role. In the German version, the cabaret artist Emil Steinberger comments on the plot. The English narrator belongs to John Denver , and the German skier Wolfgang Junginger also has some scenes.

Reviews

  • Lexicon of the international film : "The thin plot of this snow operetta between art, kitsch and advertising film aesthetics is only the hook for impressive ski acrobatics, brilliantly photographed and underlaid with an intoxicating electronic sound."
  • Heyne Filmlexikon (1996): “Excellent ski shots (deep snow, glaciers, races, skiboard) and windsurfing interludes are in the first feature film of the ex-racing ace and ski-dress manufacturer Willy Bogner, outrageous kitsch product placement and one more than against a simple framework. "

Remarks

Bogner had previously acted as a cameraman and consultant on several James Bond films in which spectacular ski scenes played a role. The title song Fire and Ice is sung by Marietta . In 1990 Bogner produced the sequel Fire, Ice & Dynamite with Roger Moore . In 2006 this film and the sequel were extensively restored and prepared for HD exploitation.
