filmportal.de is an Internet film database on German film with extensive information on films and filmmakers as well as thematic articles. The website went online in connection with the Berlinale on February 11, 2005. In 2011/2012 filmportal.de was technically renewed and expanded.

Content

The archive offers information on more than 100,000 German cinema and television films (as of October 2018) from 1895 to the present day. Around 14,000 films are presented in detail with details of their contents, photos or posters.

In addition, as of October 2018, almost 208,000 names of filmmakers in German film are represented in filmportal.de, for whom there are around 7,000 biographies.

These lexical offers are supplemented by current trailers and film excerpts from German film classics. Complete films, including short films , but also long productions are increasingly being offered for free viewing in the "Videos" section. In addition, subject areas link the information with overview articles and background presentations, for example on the history of film in the Weimar Republic , National Socialism and in the GDR , but also on more specific topics such as the history of the Agfacolor color process or the production company CCC Filmkunst .

The personal data are linked to the German biography .
