Charles Bozon (born December 15, 1932 in Chamonix , † July 7, 1964 ) was a French ski racer .

biography

His greatest success came at the World Ski Championships in 1962 in his native Chamonix, where he won the slalom title on February 12 . Six years before he was ultimately second in the scoring only for the World Cup on 29 January fifth in the giant slalom and combined at the 1956 Olympic Games become. Four years later, at the 1960 Olympic Games in Squaw Valley , he won the bronze medal in slalom in the last men's competition on February 24, thus again winning the combined World Championship silver. From 1956 to 1961 he was French champion six times - twice each in slalom, giant slalom and downhill .

Bozon achieved further racing victories in the slalom and in the combination (February 16/17, 1957) and victory in the slalom and 3rd place in the combination on February 15, 1959 in the 3-Tre race in Madonna di Campiglio . The 1958 World Ski Championships in Bad Gastein were unhappy for him , where he competed in the giant slalom on February 5th with start number. 13 had a serious fall, injured his spine and was flown to the UKH Salzburg by helicopter. Bozon was killed in an avalanche accident on Mont Blanc in 1964 . A ski slope (Charles Bozon slope) was named after him in his native Chamonix.
