Eliot Fisk (* 10. August 1954 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American guitarist of classical music .

Life

Fisk attended Yale University , where he studied under the harpsichordists Ralph Kirkpatrick and Albert Fuller (1926-2007). In 1974 he met the legendary guitarist Andrés Segovia , whose last student he is considered to be, and occasionally took private lessons from him for several years. When asked about Fisk, Segovia replied: "One of the most brilliant, intelligent and gifted guitarists of our time." In 1976 he completed his studies summa cum laude . Immediately after graduating, he was asked to set up a guitar department at Yale .

In November 1982 Professor Fisk took over the guitar class at the Cologne University of Music . Fisk currently holds a professorship at the Mozarteum in Salzburg , where he teaches in five languages. He is also a teacher at the New England Conservatory in Boston. He also gives master classes including 1st Grenada (1998), 2nd Grenada (1999) and 3rd Grenada (2000). Fisk teaches people who would otherwise not be able to get such access, for example in prisons, old people's homes and churches.

Particularly noteworthy are his transcriptions of Paganini's 24 Caprices and concerts by JS Bach for the guitar. In addition to his solo appearances, Fisk has appeared in duets with well-known musicians such as the flautist Paula Robison , the violinist Ruggiero Ricci and the guitarist Joe Pass .

Eliot Fisk owns the copyrights to Segovia's pieces, which were given to him by Segovia's widow, Emilia Segovia. Fisk is married and lives with his wife Zaira and daughter Raquel in Salzburg and Boston.
