Kjetil André Aamodt (born September 2, 1971 in Oslo ) is a former Norwegian ski racer . As the only male ski racer to date, he was able to win four Olympic gold medals and four other medals, making him the most successful ski racer at the Olympic Games . He is also the male ski racer with the most world championship medals (twelve, including five gold). His collection of medals is on display in the Norwegian Olympic Museum in Lillehammer. Along with Alberto Tomba, Aamodt is the only male runner who was able to repeat an Olympic title in the following games and one of the five runners who became winners in all disciplines in the Alpine Ski World Cup . This makes him one of the most successful ski racers of all time.
Aamodt started active skiing at the age of seven. In the 1993/94 season he won the overall World Cup at the age of 22. Between 1994 and 1995 he was operated on on the meniscus and had to pause. Aamodt lives with his wife, daughter and son in Oslo , where his father Finn also works in the Olympic training center. This often accompanied him to competitions to support him there. In addition to ski racing, he does other sports such as golf, ice hockey, football and basketball as training, compensation and hobbies. He is good friends with the equally successful former ski racer Lasse Kjus and often shared a hotel room with him on trips. On January 6, 2007, he announced that he was retiring at the Norwegian Sportsman of the Year event . He had previously been awarded the Aftenposten gold medal and the Fearnleys olympiske ærespris . Due to persistent knee problems, he did not contest any World Cup races in the 2006/2007 season. In 1993 and 2000 he received the Skieur d'Or award from the International Association of Ski Journalists (AIJS) .
In January 2008, the Aamodt Tribute Collection of a Japanese ski clothing brand, created in his honor, was presented at the world's largest sporting goods fair, Ispo in Munich. Aamodt competed in company suits for 15 years.
Aamodt won 21 World Cup races from 1992 to 2003 (1 × downhill, 5 × super-G, 6 × giant slalom, 1 × slalom, 8 × combination) and achieved a further 41 podium places.
