Henrik Kristoffersen (born July 2, 1994 in Lørenskog ) is a Norwegian ski racer . He specializes in the disciplines of slalom and giant slalom and is one of the best runners in the world in both. His biggest success so far is the giant slalom world title in 2019. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi won Kristoffersen bronze in slalom at the Winter Olympics in 2018 in Pyeongchang silver in the giant slalom. In the Alpine Ski World Cup he has won three disciplines so far.
biography
Kristoffersen grew up in Løvenstad in Rælingen Municipality and joined the Rælingen Skiklubb in 2000. In February 2009 he won the slalom and the giant slalom of the Trofeo Topolino , the most important international children's ski race, in his age group . After reaching the age limit, he took part in FIS races for the first time in the 2009/2010 season . At the end of this winter he was the best of his year in the FIS world rankings in the disciplines of slalom, giant slalom and super combined. In February 2011, the then 16-year-old again attracted international attention when he won the slalom and giant slalom of the European Youth Olympic Festival in Liberec . He also celebrated success on a national level and, in addition to top placings at junior championships, reached third place in the slalom of the Norwegian championships in 2011.
After Kristoffersen took part in two European Cup races for the first time in November 2010 , but still had no points, he has been regularly at the start in this racing series since the 2011/2012 season . He quickly caught up with the top, especially in the slalom, making it into the top ten for the first time on January 19, 2012 in Lenzerheide and celebrating his first two European Cup victories in the Pamporowo slalom on February 12 and 13 of the same year . At the Junior World Championships in Roccaraso in 2012 , he won the gold medal in giant slalom as well as the silver medal in slalom and combined. On March 11, 2012, he made his World Cup debut in the Kranjska Gora slalom , but could not qualify for the second round. At the end of the season he became Norwegian Slalom Champion .
With 11th place in the Levi slalom on November 11, 2012, Kristoffersen won her first World Cup points. At the Junior World Championships in 2013 , he won the combined ranking. At the beginning of the 2013/14 season , on November 17, 2013, he finished third in the Levi slalom and achieved his first World Cup podium at the age of 19 years and four months. After two more podium places, he won the Schladming slalom on January 28, 2014, celebrating his first World Cup victory.
In February 2014, he won the bronze medal in slalom at the Winter Olympics in Sochi , making him the youngest ever Alpine medalist at the Winter Olympics. At the beginning of March he won two more junior world championship titles (giant slalom and slalom). On March 8, 2014, he stood on the podium for the first time in a World Cup giant slalom. At the beginning of the 2014/15 season , Kristoffersen won the Levi slalom, followed by two more podium places. At the 2015 World Championships in Vail / Beaver Creek , he narrowly missed a medal in fourth place in the slalom. In March 2015 Kristoffersen won gold in giant slalom and slalom at his last junior world championship . With a total of six gold medals, he is the most successful runner in the Alpine Junior World Ski Championships . On March 21, 2015, he celebrated his first World Cup victory in a giant slalom at the World Cup final in Méribel .
In the 2015/16 season Kristoffersen developed into a serial winner. He won six of the first seven slaloms of the season, including the important classics in Wengen , Kitzbühel and Schladming. With second place in Kranjska Gora , the penultimate slalom of the season, he secured an early victory in the World Cup slalom ranking ahead of Marcel Hirscher , who had won this ranking in the previous three years. In the overall World Cup, Kristoffersen took second place behind Hirscher. The 2016/17 season was again successful for Kristoffersen. He won five slaloms and thus most of all drivers, but the slalom classification went back to Hirscher, who scored more consistently. In the overall World Cup, Kristoffersen took third place behind Hirscher and Kjetil Jansrud .
In the 2017/18 season Kristoffersen achieved more podium places than ever before. In particular, he drove on the podium in all nine slaloms, as well as in five giant slaloms and in the parallel giant slalom. However, he only managed one victory, namely in the slalom in Kitzbühel, while otherwise mostly staying behind Hirscher, who returned to the World Cup with a broken ankle. Nevertheless, Kristoffersen temporarily took the lead in the slalom and briefly in the overall World Cup; in the end he finished second behind Hirscher in the overall, slalom and giant slalom rankings. At the Schladming night slalom on the Planai on January 23, 2018, two snowballs were thrown at Kristoffersen from the left side of the route in the second run, but they did not hit him. At the finish he was angry about it. The thrower or throwers could not be identified, the FIS appealed to reason a year later. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , Kristoffersen won the silver medal in giant slalom behind Hirscher; in the slalom, however, he retired as the leader in the second run (Hirscher already in the first run).
In the 2018/19 World Cup , too, Kristoffersen couldn't get past Hirscher. He won two races and was second four times and third twice. At the 2019 World Championships in Åre , he won the gold medal in giant slalom. After Hirscher's resignation and before the start of the 2019/20 World Cup season , the media generally expected that Kristoffersen would fight a duel with Alexis Pinturault in the fight for the overall World Cup standings . He kept up until the end of January and was now in the lead, but after a period of weakness in the first half of February, he passed it on to his compatriot Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, who was much more consistent . During the winter he won three races and made it onto the podium six more times. With a lead of only six or two points, he won the giant slalom and slalom discipline rankings.
