The Alpine Ski World Cup 2019/20 began on October 26, 2019. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the season planned for March 22, 2020 was canceled on March 12, 2020.
The World Cup kick-off was held in Sölden from October 26th to 27th, 2019 . For the Austrian community, it was the 20th anniversary . The World Cup final should take place in Cortina d'Ampezzo from March 18-22, 2020 . For the Italian community, it would have been the dress rehearsal for the World Cup . However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the races were canceled on March 3rd. For the same reason, the outstanding races for women in Åre had to be canceled on March 11, and those for men in Kranjska Gora on March 12 .
The competitions were 36 races at 20 locations for men and 30 races at 17 locations for women.
After the end of the career of last year's winner Marcel Hirscher (Austria), the favorites for the men were Alexis Pinturault ( France ), second from last year, Henrik Kristoffersen ( Norway ) and third, and Mikaela Shiffrin ( United States ) for the women . The defending champion in the Nations Cup was Austria. Ultimately, however, the favorites did not prevail. The winners were Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (Norway) in the men, Federica Brignone ( Italy ) in the women and Switzerland in the Nations Cup.
