Even before the start of the giant slalom in Val-d'Isère (December 17th) Hermann Maier was disqualified by FIS race director Günter Hujara for exceeding the inspection time and was banned from the next race in Bormio ; however, this ban was lifted on December 20th by the FIS Complaints Committee.

In the Hahnenkamm combination (January 20/21) only 6 runners were included in the ranking; in addition to the three on the podium, there were Casey Puckett (USA), Paul Accola (SUI) and Gregor Sparovec (SLO); The latter lost 12.39 s to winner Kjus.
The slalom on January 23rd in Schladming was a night slalom.
In contrast to the previous year, Hermann Maier traveled to East Asia this time to take part in the giant slalom in Shigakōgen (February 15); he had planned his flight in such a way as not to become a “jet set victim” because of the quick change of location by going to the race location immediately after arrival, there with start no. 1 and completed these races with two fastest times and immediately flew back to Europe. A secondary motive for his actions was that, with regard to the small time delays traded in the previous world championships and thus better or lost medals of the "alpine skiing world", in one race alone, he wanted to distance the competition more clearly than the addition of these time differences . He did this with a lead of 1.74 s.
Women:
At the season opener in Sölden , Martina Ertl managed to win as seventeenth of the first run, which to date (January 2019) represents the greatest improvement in rank to first place in the women's giant slalom.
With 6th place in the Super-G in Val-d'Isère (December 6th), Alexandra Meissnitzer made a strong "comeback" after her serious injury on November 25th of the previous year.
With start no. 44 Emily Brydon finished third on the first descent in St. Moritz (December 16) and thus prevented the ÖSV women from being successful five times.
At the slalom in Sestriere (December 20th) Martina Ertl was disqualified after the first run because her ski was 0.09 mm too narrow.
The slalom at Semmering (December 28th) was a night slalom.
At the descent in Lenzerheide (February 24th), the aces had miscalculated when choosing their starting numbers; Dorfmeister took 27th and Götschl 29th, but Kirsten Lee Clark won with No. 5. The reason for the error was the previous year's result, when Corinne Imlig won with No. 33 on March 5th with the piste getting faster and faster this time only the first numbers had sun luck - after that there was diffuse light, caused by a cloud that had not been predicted by any weather forecast.
