Silvia Berger (born November 7, 1980 in Westendorf ) is a former Austrian ski racer . She is a member of the Westendorf Ski Club and mainly competed in the Super-G and giant slalom disciplines . Occasionally, she also made runs , albeit far less often than at the beginning of her career.

biography

Berger made her first appearance in an FIS race in December 1995, followed two years later by the first race in the European Cup . During the 1998/99 season she seemed to have a very successful career ahead of her. On January 2nd, 1999, she competed in her first World Cup race and immediately finished 20th in the giant slalom in Maribor. In the European Cup, she won four races and thus became the overall winner as well as the downhill and giant slalom classifications. She also won the silver medal in the Super-G and in the giant slalom at the Junior World Championships in 1999 .

On December 9, 1999, she was second in the giant slalom in Val-d'Isère . This should be her best World Cup result, because ten days later she suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in a fall in the Super-G in St. Moritz . After this injury, she was never able to build on her previous performance, slipped into midfield and had to play more in the European Cup. In the World Cup, she regularly placed in the points, but it was only enough to podium twice: in 2004 in Veysonnaz and in 2005 in Cortina d'Ampezzo , she was third in the Super-G. In total, she has been in the top ten 20 times so far.

Due to the strong internal team competition in the ÖSV , Berger could never qualify for the Olympic Winter Games . She only started once at a world championship; at the Ski World Championships 2005 in Santa Caterina Valfurva she was eleventh in the Super-G. In March 2008 she became Austrian champion in Super-G and runner-up in downhill.

On April 23, 2009, at the age of 28, she announced her retirement from active ski racing.
