Santa Caterina Valfurva is an Italian ski resort 200 kilometers northeast of Milan and fraction of the municipality of Valfurva .
Santa Caterina is located in the Gaviatal not far from Bormio in the province of Sondrio ( Lombardy region ). The place is located at 1734 m slm and has eight lifts and 40 kilometers of ski slopes. The road from Bormio continues behind Santa Caterina to the Gavia pass .
Santa Caterina was the venue for the women's races at the 2005 Alpine World Ski Championships . The piste on which the races were held is named after the multiple world and Olympic champion Deborah Compagnoni , who was born in Santa Caterina.
