Abetone is a fraction of the Italian municipality of Abetone Cutigliano in the province of Pistoia . The place was an independent municipality until 2016.

The Lima River has its source in the southern part of the village . The place is at an altitude of 1388  m slm

The municipalities of Abetone and Cutigliano merged on January 1, 2017 to form the new municipality of Abetone Cutigliano . The municipality of Abetone consisted of the Fractions Cecchetto, Fontana Vaccaia, Le Regine, Faidello and Val di Luce. The community had 629 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2016) on an area of ​​31 km². Neighboring communities were Bagni di Lucca , Coreglia Antelminelli ( Province of Lucca ), Cutigliano and Fiumalbo ( Province of Modena ).

Abetone in winter

Abetone is the main town in the ski area of the same name . In total, the whole area has around 30 km of slopes with 22 access systems operated by the Multipass company. The ski area is divided into three main areas; the first area, which extends southwards below the Tuscan watershed, with the historically most famous slopes (Selletta, Fivizzani, Riva); the second area, which extends northwards into the Emilian catchment area (ski slopes Zeno, Stucchi, Pulicchio); the third area comprises the slopes in Val di Luce . The three Zeno slopes are named after the ski world champion Zeno Colò , who designed them personally.

Abetone in summer

In summer Abetone is known for the wide range of summer sports. Above all, there is the possibility of mountain hikes and ascents to Monte Gomito , Monte Cimone and the Libro Aperto mountain peak . Abetone also has facilities for bike tours, football and futsal .
