biography
Chierroni's career began in 1934 when, at the age of 16, he finished fourth in the international descent on Monte Canin , making him the best Italian. The following year he confirmed this achievement by winning the Italian championship in combination and slalom .
In February 1936 he took part in the Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . In the combination held there for the first time, he was twelfth after the downhill run, but fell back to 18th place in the slalom. When two weeks later in Innsbruck performed World Cup , he left in downhill skiing.
At his second world championship in Chamonix in February 1937, he finished sixth in both downhill and combined. In the winter of 1937/38 Chierroni won significant victories in the downhill races in Megève , Chamonix and Furggen , but he stayed in the lower ranks at the world championships held in Engelberg , Switzerland . At the World Championships in Zakopane in 1939 , he repeated sixth place in downhill skiing.
He celebrated his greatest sporting success in February 1941. At the world championship held in Cortina d'Ampezzo , he became world champion in slalom at the same time as the German Albert Pfeifer , also won the bronze medal in the combination and was fourth in the downhill. After the end of the Second World War, the International Ski Federation (FIS) subsequently declared this World Championship invalid at a congress in 1946 at the request of the ski federations of the United States, Austria and Belgium, as many nations were unable to take part due to political circumstances. All medals lost their official status after the decision of the FIS and are no longer counted.
Chierroni took part in ski racing again from 1947, won his tenth national championship title in downhill and finished seventh in downhill, slalom and combined at the Lauberhorn races . The following season he won the slalom at the legendary Arlberg-Kandahar race in Chamonix and took part in the Winter Olympics a second time in St. Moritz , where he came third in the combined slalom. In 1950 he won the 3 Tre giant slalom again .
After finishing his active career, he organized the races for the Coppa Nebrun for the ski club in his hometown Abetone for several years .
