Florian Eckert (born February 7, 1979 in Lörrach ) is a former German ski racer . His specialty was downhill . He grew up in Bad Toelz , but went for the Ski Club Lenggries and made the boarding school in Oberstdorf the High School .

At his first World Ski Championships in 2001 in St. Anton am Arlberg , he surprisingly finished third behind the two Austrians Hannes Trinkl and Hermann Maier in downhill skiing and won the bronze medal. Then he was able to confirm his achievements with two second places in downhill runs in Norway. He was sidelined for two years because of a serious knee injury that he suffered in the fall of the same year. He celebrated his greatest success at the 2005 World Ski Championships in Bormio , when he won the gold medal in the team competition and also achieved sixth place in the Super-G and 12th place in the downhill. He was German champion six times in the downhill (2), slalom (1) and Super-G (3) disciplines.

Due to constant knee problems, Florian Eckert announced his retirement as a ski racer on September 14, 2005. In March 2010 he completed his studies in precision engineering at the Munich University of Applied Sciences . In the organizing committee of the Alpine World Ski Championships 2011 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he was race director for the men's competitions.
