biography

Christoph Nösig attended the main ski school in Neustift and then the ski high school in Stams , which he graduated with the Matura in 2004 . From 2005 to 2009 he was a regular soldier at the Army Sports Center in Innsbruck . Since 2009 he has been a contract clerk in the customs department of the Federal Ministry of Finance . After five years in the squad of the Tyrolean Ski Association, he was accepted into the ÖSV junior squad in 2002 and was promoted to the B squad in 2005. Nösig contested his first FIS race in December 2000. He was first used in the European Cup in December 2003. At the Junior World Championships in Bardonecchia in 2005 he was able to place four times in the top ten (4th combination, 5th giant slalom, 6th downhill, 7th Super-G). In 2006 he became Austrian champion in combination. In the 2007/08 season he celebrated his first European Cup victory in the giant slalom in Hinterstoder and took fourth place in the overall giant slalom ranking. In December 2008, the first race in the World Cup followed at the giant slalom in Beaver Creek , where he did not qualify for the second run.

On February 21, 2009, Nösig achieved his first World Cup points in the giant slalom in Sestriere with 24th place. In the same year he rose to the A-team. He achieved his best World Cup result for almost three years on January 30, 2010 with 14th place in the giant slalom in Kranjska Gora ; Overall, he scored four times in the World Cup in the 2009/10 season . In the European Cup he won the giant slalom standings in the 2009/10 season with two victories and another two podium places and achieved fourth place overall. For the time being, Nösig was unable to repeat the results of winter 2009/10. In the 2010/11 season he won only once as 23rd of the giant slalom of Val-d'Isère World Cup points and in the winter of 2011/12 he had no result in his four giant slalom starts in the World Cup. During that winter he had to take a break for two months because of a herniated disc . In March 2012 he became Austrian champion in giant slalom.

In spring 2012 Nösig was dismissed from the cadre of the ÖSV. In the winter of 2012/13, however, he still had the opportunity to take part in World Cup races and achieved his first top 10 results in early December 2012 as tenth in the giant slalom in Beaver Creek and ninth in the giant slalom in Val-d'Isère. At the 2015 Alpine World Ski Championships in Vail / Beaver Creek , he won the gold medal in the team competition together with Marcel Hirscher , Michaela Kirchgasser and Eva-Maria Brem .
