Alpine Nor-Am Cup

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In addition to the European Cup, the Alpine Nor-Am Cup represents the most important part of the substructure of the Alpine Ski World Cup . The competition is primarily intended to give young racers from the USA and Canada the opportunity to gain experience on an international level (athletes from other continents are also welcome Participation open). The Nor-Am Cup was held from the 1970/1971 season under the name Canadian-American Cup (Can-Am Cup). Since the 1977/1978 season, the racing series has been called the North American Cup (Nor-Am Cup).

In contrast to the World Cup, all races take place in North America. Otherwise, the rules are the same, including the allocation of points based on the FIS points system . The racers can collect points in five different disciplines ( downhill , slalom , giant slalom , super G and super combination ). Winners will be determined in the overall ranking and in the discipline ratings. The overall winners of the Nor-Am Cup will receive a fixed starting place in all disciplines for the following World Cup season. In addition, the best two in each discipline will receive a fixed World Cup starting place in the respective discipline. Competitors who are already among the top 20 on the World Cup starting list or who do not belong to a North American association will not be taken into account. In this case, the next move up in the ranking.
