Monika Bergmann (born April 17, 1978 in Lam ) is a former German ski racer . Her specialty was the slalom .

biography

Monika Bergmann competed in her first World Cup race in December 1996 . She achieved her best placings in the Ski World Cup with two second places on December 29, 2001 in Lienz and on February 8, 2004 on the Großer Arber . In the 2003/04 season she was third in the Slalom World Cup behind the Swede Anja Pärson and the Austrian Marlies Schild .

Due to her marriage in May 2003, she was shown at FIS races as a Bergmann-Schmuderer. This name was only used until 2007.

She achieved the greatest success of her career at the Alpine World Ski Championships in Bormio in 2005 , when she became world champion in the team competition that was held for the first time together with Andreas Ertl , Martina Ertl , Florian Eckert , Hilde Gerg and Felix Neureuther .

Bergmann took part in the Winter Olympics in 1998, 2002 and 2006 . Her best result was a sixth place in slalom in 2002. On March 7, 2009, she announced her retirement from ski racing at the end of the 2008/09 season . Her last race was the World Cup Slalom in Åre on March 13, 2009 .

In 2010 Monika Bergmann completed her studies with the academic degree "Bachelor of Arts in International Management" and has been working in the private sector ever since.
