biography
Schörghofer comes from Filzmoos , completed the main ski school in Bad Gastein as well as the ski hotel management school in Bad Hofgastein and was a temporary military person in the Rif Army Sports Center from 2001 to 2007. In 1998 he won the Super G of the Whistler Cup . He contested the first FIS race in November of the same year. After joining the squad of the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) in 2000, he competed in the European Cup for the first time in January 2001 in Zauchensee . In the 2007/08 and 2008/09 seasons he reached second place in the giant slalom discipline in the European Cup.
At the 2003 Junior World Championships , Schörghofer came third in giant slalom, fourth in Super-G and 14th in downhill. His first start in the World Cup was on December 17, 2006 in the giant slalom on the Gran Risa in Alta Badia , and he achieved his first top 10 result at the start of the 2008/09 season as eighth in the giant slalom in Sölden . With another top 10 result, he qualified for the 2009 World Cup in Val-d'Isère , where he finished 14th. His first top 5 result in the World Cup was a fifth place in the giant slalom in Åre on March 13, 2009. Shortly after this race, he tore ankle ligaments, had to undergo an operation and was paused for several weeks.
In the 2009/10 World Cup season , Schörghofer was initially among the top ten in three giant slaloms. He got into the team for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and finished twelfth there. At the World Cup final in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on March 12, 2010, he finished third for the first time on the podium, at the same time as Ted Ligety . This also enabled him to get promoted to the national team of the ÖSV.
On February 6, 2011, Schörghofer celebrated his first World Cup victory in the giant slalom in Hinterstoder , making it seventh in the top ten in the Giant Slalom World Cup for the first time in the 2010/11 season . At the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he won the bronze medal in the giant slalom and the silver medal in the team competition. At the end of winter he became Austrian champion in giant slalom. In the 2011/12 World Cup season he achieved two third places. Together with Eva-Maria Brem , Michaela Kirchgasser and Marcel Mathis , he won the team competition at the season finale in Schladming . He won this one year later at the same location together with Marcel Hirscher , Nicole Hosp , Kirchgasser, Mathis and Carmen Thalmann as part of the 2013 World Ski Championships , with which Schörghofer became world champion for the first time. In the giant slalom he reached 10th place. At the 2015 World Ski Championships , he is also listed as the winner of the team competition, but without having been used.
At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , Christian Hirschbühl was nominated for the giant slalom for Schörghofer because he felt pain in his knee. However, he could not comply.
In the 2018/19 season , Schörghofer hardly contested any more races and ended the season early. At the end of April 2019, he announced the end of his active career at a press conference in Obertauern .
