The Gran Risa is a ski slope in South Tyrol . It is located on the territory of the municipality Abbey ( Ladin and Italian Badia ) and belongs to the ski region Alta Badia in the Dolomites . The Gran Risa is particularly known for the numerous races of the Alpine Ski World Cup .

Over a length of 1255 meters, the piste overcomes a height difference of 448 meters, which corresponds to an average gradient of 36%. The maximum gradient is 60%. The start is at an altitude of 1871  m on Piz La Ila, the finish in the village of Stern ( La Ila in Ladin , La Villa in Italian ) at 1423  m . The entire length of the slope leads through an aisle in a pine forest. It is considered to be one of the most difficult routes in the Ski World Cup because - in addition to the steepness - it is usually heavily iced due to its location on a shadowy slope.

For the first time, the men's World Cup giant slalom was held on the Gran Risa in 1985 , every year since 1990 (usually mid-December). From 2006 to 2011, World Cup slaloms were also held on the Gran Risa ; the start is at 1625  m . Since 2015 the Gran Risa has also hosted World Cup parallel giant slaloms . The women's World Cup giant slalom has only been held twice, in 1994 and 2003. The record winner is Marcel Hirscher , who, in addition to six giant slaloms, also won a slalom and a parallel giant slalom.

The former ski racer Marcello Varallo is the long-standing president of the organizing committee .
