biography
Sports career
Shortly before his 20th birthday, on January 19, 1982, Pieren took part in a World Cup race for the first time , the giant slalom on Chuenisbärgli in his native Adelboden. He was classified 15th and thus got his first World Cup points. Three years later he improved to 5th place in the same place and established himself as a driver who regularly drove into the top 15, but without achieving a top result.
On December 13, 1987 Pieren drove out a podium for the first time on the Gran Risa in Alta Badia . The best result in the World Cup was two second places, on January 4, 1992 in Kranjska Gora and eighteen days later in Adelboden. In the 1991/92 season he was the second best driver in the Giant Slalom World Cup behind Alberto Tomba .
Pieren took part in two World Championships and two Olympic Games, but won no medal. At the 1992 Winter Olympics he reached 11th place in the giant slalom in Val-d'Isère , and at the 1993 World Championships in Morioka , he was fifth in the same discipline. At the end of the 1992/93 season he resigned from top-class sport.
Entrepreneur, trainer, race director
In 1991, Pierens ski outfitter Atomic withdrew his serviceman due to restructuring, whereupon he had to prepare his racing skis himself. He did the same after changing the brand to Rossignol , through which he acquired specialist knowledge in this area. He used this at the end of 1992, before his resignation, to set up a mail order business for ski waxes, special tools, sportswear and accessories. Pieren has also been organizing training camps for young people since 1992.
During the 1993/94 ski season, Pieren was an athlete representative at World Cup races in the technical disciplines. Since then, he has been using the knowledge he acquired as race director of the World Cup races in Adelboden. From 1999 to 2001 he was the head coach of the Swiss women's national team. During his term of office, 13 World Cup victories by various Swiss athletes and the giant slalom world championship by Sonja Nef fall .
In spring 2005 the FIS appointed Pieren as race director of the giant slalom and slalom competitions in the women's World Cup. Two years later he switched from the women's to the men's races in order to be able to continue to organize the World Cup event in Adelboden.
