Sabine Ginther (AUT) was not able to compete (as in the combined descent) after breaking a lumbar vertebra after a fall on the second day of training. As a result, the Austrian team entered the race with only three riders due to the lack of substitutes, which was a novelty for the large Austrian Ski Association as a member of the national Austrian Olympic Committee with regard to Olympic positions (only comparable to the World Championships in 1987, when - also due to injury - the women's giant slalom could be equipped with only three drivers).
The winner Lee-Gartner never won a World Cup race.

30 participants, 29 of them in the rating. Eliminated: Chantal Bournisse (SUI).
