Claudia Strobl (born November 4, 1965 in Afritz am See ) is a former Austrian ski racer .

The slalom specialist won a world cup race and was second in the slalom world cup in the 1989/90 season. Since July 6, 2018, she has been President of the Carinthia State Ski Association (LSVK).

biography

Strobl started skiing at the age of nine. At the beginning of the 1980s she was accepted into the youth team of the Austrian Ski Association . In the 1985/86 season she joined the World Cup group and was in the top ten several times in the World Cup. The best result of the season was fifth place in the Piancavallo slalom . The following winter she made it onto the podium for the first time in Val Zoldana . However, the next two seasons were rather disappointing, in which she was only once in the top ten.

In the 1989/90 season she managed to break through to the top of the world. In Steamboat Springs she celebrated her first and only World Cup victory in the second slalom of the season and achieved four other podium placements. With Vreni Schneider , she fought an exciting duel to win the Slalom World Cup until the end. Thanks to the victory in the last race in Åre , Schneider was able to win this ranking.

However, Strobl was unable to repeat last year's successes. In the next few seasons she was regularly among the top ten, but she did not get any podium places. With two fourth places in the winter of 1991/92, she managed to qualify for a major event for the first time, after having narrowly missed a World Cup participation twice so far. At the 1992 Winter Olympics , she was tenth in the first slalom run, but failed in the second run. In the winter of 1992/93 she reached the top ten only once, which is why she was downgraded to the B squad for the following season. In spring 1994 Strobl announced her resignation.

Claudia Strobl has been called Strobl-Traninger since her marriage to Stefan Traninger. She runs a company in Villach that specializes in successful training.

On July 6, 2018, she was unanimously elected president of the Carinthian Ski Association at the annual general meeting of the Carinthian Ski Association (after eight presidents, she is the first woman to head the association). She replaced Raimund Berger, who had resigned at the end of April. Monika Milazzi-Reitner and Heinz Kabusch are at her side as Vice Presidents.
