Alpine skiing at the Olympic Games

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Alpine skiing

Alpine skiing has beenpart of the program of the Olympic Winter Games since the 1936 Winter Games . The competitions are held for both women and men.

From 1948 to 1980 the Olympic Games also counted as Alpine World Ski Championships , so that the Olympic champions were also world champions at the same time, except in the combination . Since 1985 the World Championships have been held in odd years independently of the Winter Olympics. The exception was the World Cup in the Sierra Nevada, which only took place in 1996 because there had been an acute lack of snow the year before.

With downhill , super-G , giant slalom , slalom and the alpine combination , five disciplines are currently part of the Olympic program.

A list of the Olympic champions in alpine skiing can be found at: List of Olympic champions in alpine skiing .
