Wrestling (Greco-Roman)

The rings is one of the oldest Olympic sports and was missing only in 1900 at the Olympic Games. Wrestling was already part of the Olympic Games at the ancient Olympic Games . The modern Olympic program includes two styles of wrestling - Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling . Since Athens 2004 women have started freestyle at the Olympic Games. In 2013 the IOC decided to take wrestling out of the program in 2020 , but the IOC reversed this decision after numerous protests and the UWW world wrestling association had completely renewed itself.

Greco-Roman

There are a total of 18 wrestling competitions at the Olympic Games - 12 men and 6 women. 6 of these competitions are Greco-Roman (no women’s competitions).

Until Paris 1924 there was no time limit for the competitions, so that the fights lasted up to almost 12 hours. 1912 was the final in the light heavyweight in Greco-Roman. interrupted after 9 hours and both received a silver medal.
