Sailing was supposed to have itsOlympic premierein Athens in 1896 , but the competitions could not be held due to bad weather conditions, so that it was notpart of the Gamesuntil Paris in 1900 - the boat classes were still divided by weight.

There are 10 sailing competitions at the Olympic Games, which are divided into boat classes - men 5 and women 4 and a mixed competition. Sailing was open to women from the start - from Seoul 1988 competitions for men and women were introduced.

Windsurfing

In Los Angeles in 1984 was windsurfing olympic. The IOC does not regard it as an independent sport or discipline, but rather as a competition within sailing - here it is listed separately for better clarity.
