Viola Gillette

Viola Gillette (born Viola Pratt ; born October 7, 1871 in Salt Lake City ; † April 1, 1956 there ) was an American singer (contra-alto).

Live and act

Gillette began her career as a church singer in Salt Lake City. She made her stage debut in 1898, and in the same year she was engaged by the Castle Square Opera Company in New York. There she was also a solo singer at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church from 1898–99 . She gave her first solo concert in 1899 at the music festival in Springfield / Massachusetts. In early 1901 she performed at the Shaftesbury Theater in London for a few months . They then engaged Claw & Erlanger for their productions of Beauty and the Beast and Mother Goose . In 1907 she appeared as Violetta in The Girl and the Bandit , after which she directed the Viola Gillette Opera Company . Gillette was married to the singer George MacFarlane .
