At the XI. At the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin , four sailing competitions were held on the Kiel Fjord in the Olympic harbor in Düsternbrook off Kiel .
The scoring system was the same as at the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. For each properly completed race the yacht received one point plus one point for each defeated yacht. The Netherlands, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom each won a gold medal.
In the star boat, Peter Bischoff and his bow man Hans-Joachim Weise were the first German sailors to win an Olympic gold medal.
