The Olympiahafen Düsternbrook (today "Sporthafen Kiel - Düsternbrook - Old Olympiahafen 1936") - is a sports harbor in the Kiel district of Düsternbrook in Schleswig-Holstein - on the inside of the Kiel Fjord . It was the venue for the sailing competitions during the 1936 Olympic Games .

history

The Olympiahafen Düsternbrook was rebuilt for the Olympic Games on what was then Hindenburgufer (today “ Kiellinie ”). The decision to build the competition facilities for the 1936 Olympic Games, which were awarded to Berlin on May 13, 1931 , was made in 1934. The main competitor for the venue for the sailing competitions was Lübeck .

A harbor for 200 yachts as well as an Olympic home (today's house World Club on Düsternbrooker Weg) for the accommodation of the athletes were built. An Olympic village was not built. During the regattas on the Lübeck cog , the Olympic flame burned on the correspondingly converted foremast on the shell.

The opening of the Olympic competitions in Düsternbrook took place on August 3, 1936. The closing ceremonies were held on August 14, 1936.

The Düsternbrook sports harbor now has four pools. Immediately to the south is the Blücherbrücke .

Sailing competitions

In the period from August 2 to August 14, 1936, races were held on the competition tracks in the inner and outer fjords in the boat classes O-Jolle , Starboot , 6-m class and 8-m class.
