The Hockey-Olympiastadion is a hockey stadium in Berlin that was built on the occasion of the 1936 Summer Olympics .
history
The stadium is located on the Olympic site directly next to the Olympic Stadium . The construction of the stadium was decided on September 10, 1934. In 1936 it had 9,000 standing and 2,000 seats and thus offered a total of 11,000 spectators. Additional temporary steps were built on the sides for the 1936 Olympic Games , increasing the capacity to 18,000 seats (11,500 standing and 6,500 seats).
The playing field was surrounded by a 55 centimeter high wall made of green stone and the steps were planted with lawn.
The field was 90 meters long and 54 meters wide. The facility also had rooms for the tournament management and the press, four changing rooms and a refreshment stand for the spectators.
To the north of the hockey stadium there was an extensive lawn with six playing fields, which after the Olympic Games served as training grounds for the Reich Academy and the sports associations. During the Olympic Games, a second hockey field for preliminary round games with a capacity of 1,600 spectators was built.
In the meantime, artificial turf has been laid in the stadium and it is a listed building.
