The police stadium was a stadium in the Berlin district of Mitte that was used for football and field handball .

Location and facilities

After the First World War , the Berlin police used the cockchafer barracks and the parade ground and built the police stadium here in 1929. The stadium was located in the western part of what was then the Mitte district (which today forms the "new" Mitte district together with the former districts of Tiergarten and Wedding ). It bordered Chausseestrasse in the east, Habersaathstrasse in the south (Kesselstrasse until 1951) and residential areas along Scharnhorststrasse and Boyenstrasse in the north and west. Here, among others, contributed Tennis Borussia Berlin and PSV Concordia Gropiusstadt of their home games.

During the 1936 Summer Olympics , field handball games were played in the stadium . According to the IOC , the stadium had seating and standing space.

After the Second World War, the ruined barracks 1949/1950 were demolished and destroyed police stadium was on the parade ground with Berlin ruin debris piled up, magnified and Walter Ulbricht Stadium expanded. The stadium opened on August 5, 1951 for the III. World Festival of Youth and Students . After its renovation, it was renamed Stadium of World Youth in 1973 on the occasion of the 10th World Festival . It was demolished in 1992 as part of Berlin's bid for the 2000 Summer Olympics . The new headquarters of the Federal Intelligence Service (BND) has been located on the area in the Mitte district since 2018 .
