successes

Willem de Vries Lentsch made his Olympic debut in Amsterdam in 1928 , but narrowly missed a medal win in the 12-foot dinghy when he finished fourth. Like Bertel Broman , he had won two races, but since Broman had finished second twice and de Vries Lentsch only once, Broman received the bronze medal. At the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin , whose sailing regattas were held in the Düsternbrook Olympic harbor in Kiel , he started in the star boat . With Bob Maas he won the bronze medal in third behind the German Peter Bischoffand Hans-Joachim Weise as well as Arvid Laurin and Uno Wallentin from Sweden.

There were other Olympic sailors in his family. His brother Gerard de Vries Lentsch won the silver medal in the 8-meter class in 1928, his son Wim de Vries Lentsch took part in the Olympic sailing regattas in 1948 and 1952 .
