Haimar Wedemeyer

Haimar Wedemeyer (born September 22, 1906 in Marburg ; † November 13, 1998 in Hamburg ) was a German administrative lawyer. He became known as an Olympic sailor and submarine commander.

Life

Haimar Wedemeyer was the son of Werner Wedemeyer . He studied law at the Philipps University of Marburg . On November 20, 1926 , he reciprocated in his father's corps Hasso-Nassovia and distinguished himself as consenior . Rudolf Weber-Lortsch was active with him . He switched to the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel . In 1929 he passed the first law exam. After his legal clerkship and the assessor's examination, he joined the Reich Finance Administration in 1933 . He came to Insterburg and Königsberg . He felt very much at home in East Prussia . In 1936 he came in 6th place with Hans Lubinus , Dietrich Christensen, Kurt Frey and Theodor Thomsen at the Olympic sailing competitions for 6 meter R yachts in Kiel. From 1939 he served in the Navy . As a lieutenant captain , he was in command of U 365 from June 8, 1943 . More cautious than aggressive, he was replaced on November 17, 1944. Less than four weeks later the boat was sunk in the Norwegian Sea by two submarine hunters of the Royal Air Force . All 50 crew members were killed. In the post-war period in Germany he was employed by the tax authorities in Hamburg. At Christmas 1946 he married Charlotte Pritsch from Danzig. Most recently he was senior government director . He was a member of the Academic Club in Hamburg .
