Heinrich von Hesse

Heinrich Ludwig von Hesse (born April 19, 1827 in Darmstadt , † March 12, 1895 in Auerbach (Bergstrasse) ) was a royal Prussian major general and most recently commander of the Schleswig Infantry Regiment No. 84 .

Life

origin

His parents were the Hessian real privy councilor and President of the Higher Appeal and Cassation Court in Darmstadt, Andreas von Hesse (1793-1868) and his wife Philippine Friederike Auguste, née Schwaner (1802-1842).

Career

He received his education at the grammar school in Darmstadt . After graduating, he joined the Hessian 2nd Infantry Regiment on April 19, 1843 as a musketeer. On August 1, 1844, he became a cadet corporal there. From June 1, 1846 to August 30, 1846 he was posted to the pioneer company, after his return he was promoted to lieutenant on September 18, 1846. From March 1, 1848 to March 31, 1849 he was appointed investigating officer. During the Baden Revolution he fought near Günterstal , Freiburg , Heinsbach, Gernsbach and Käfertal. From April 2, 1849 to February 21, 1855 he was a battalion adjutant and rose to first lieutenant on May 23, 1855. From June 25, 1859 to July 2, 1859, General Wiederhold was with him when he traveled to Berlin for a meeting . He was then appointed from February 20, 1860 to May 3, 1864 as a member of the officers' examination committee. During this time he received the character of a captain and the appointment of leader of the 4th Company. On March 10, 1866, he became a real captain and company commander. During the German War he fought against the Prussians in the battles near Aschaffenburg and Gerchsheim .
From June 19, 1866 to April 22, 1868 he was division adjutant of the Hessian division. At the end of his time, on April 3, 1868, he was entrusted with the management of the business of the first general staff officer. He was promoted to major on June 1, 1868 and appointed chief of staff in the Hessian division. From February 14, 1869 to May 20, 1869 he was assigned to the 2nd Guards Regiment on foot in Berlin.

During the Franco-Prussian War he fought in the battles of Vionville , Gravelotte , Noisseville , Orleans , the siege of Metz and the battles at Meung, Beaugency, Montlivault, Chumbord and Vienne. For this he received the Iron Cross 2nd class on September 10, 1870 .

With the founding of the German Reich on November 25, 1871, he was transferred to the 3rd Grand Duke Hessian Infantry Regiment (Leib-Regiment) No. 117 as a battalion commander. On January 1, 1872, he joined the Prussian Army , where he was initially aggregated with his patent as a major in the 7th Rhenish Infantry Regiment No. 69 and was assigned on April 13, 1872. On April 19, 1872, he was appointed commander of the II battalion and on September 2, 1873, lieutenant colonel. On March 11, 1876, he was entrusted with the command of the Schleswig Infantry Regiment No. 84 and was placed à la suite . Promoted to colonel on March 22, 1876, he was confirmed as commander on May 18, 1876. In addition he received the Order of the Red Eagle III on January 20, 1878 . Class with a bow. On September 14, 1880 he received his departure with the character as major general and pension. He died on March 12, 1895 in Auerbach (Bergstrasse).

Hesse married Mathilde Schulz (1828–1869) on November 4, 1851 in Darmstadt. The couple had several children:

After the death of his first wife, he married Marie Wilhelmine Freiin von Senarclens-Grancy (1840-1908) on September 26, 1871 in Jugenheim (Bergstrasse ). The couple had several children:
