successes

Lauritz Schmidt, member of the Kongelig Norsk Seilforening , took part in the Olympic Games twice. In 1920 in Antwerp he won the silver medal on his Olympic debut in the 8-meter class according to the International Rule of 1919. In three races with the Lyn he always finished behind the second Norwegian boat Sildra and in front of the Belgian boat Antwerpia V in second place, which is why the Lyn finished the regatta in second place. In addition to skipper Jens Salvesen , the crew also included Nils Thomas , Ralph Tschudi and Finn Schiander .

At the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin , he repeated this success in the 8-meter class. He was again a crew member, this time the Silja under skipper Olaf Ditlev-Simonsen , who finished the regatta taking place in the Olympic harbor Düsternbrook in Kiel in second place. At first, the Silja and the Germania III from Germany had achieved 53 total points, in the jump-off for second place behind the Olympic champions from Italy, they finally prevailed against their German competitors. In addition to Schmidt and Ditlev-Simonsen, the other crew members John Ditlev-Simonsen , Hans Struksnæs , Nordahl Wallem and Jacob Tullin Thams also received the silver medal.

Schmidt attended a commercial school and lived in Hamburg for three years during his training . In 1926 he became head of the printing and binding company Nationaltrykkeriet A / S & Forlagsbokbinderiet .
