from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Skeleton wason the program of the Olympic Winter Games for the first time in 1928 and 1948, both times in St. Moritz ( Switzerland ). Then there was a 54-year hiatus until the sportwas back on the programin Salt Lake City ( USA )in 2002. Since then, skeleton driving has been an integral part of the winter games. There have been medals for both men and women since 2002. Before that there were only competitions for men.

The IOC sets since 2002 laid before each Winter Games, how many Skeleton rider may participate in the competitions. The FIBT then works out a corresponding qualification mode. No more than three skeleton riders per nation may start in the Olympic competition.
