List of European champions in skeleton
The first Skeleton - European Championship was on 22. February 1981 in Igls ( Austria held) and after a long interruption of one of profiliertesten international competitions of the Skeleton Sports .
The European Skeleton Championships can be divided into two phases. The first phase includes the men's European championships between 1981 and 1988. World championships were held in parallel in 1982 and 1987. In order to upgrade this, the European Championships were suspended from 1989. This is ambivalent as North American skeleton championships have been held regularly since 1987 . The first phase of the European Championships was dominated by athletes from Austria and Switzerland who, apart from a silver medal from the German Franz Kleber and two bronze medals from the Italian Antonio Morelli, made up all gold and silver medals.
European championships have been held again since 2003, now also for women. While other nations were now able to occupy the top places in the men's category, the German women who had won eight times dominated the women's race. The European championships since 2003 have been held as part of a European skeleton World Cup race ("Race-in-Race"), whereby the results of the skeleton drivers from overseas are simply eliminated for the evaluation of the European championship and, on the other hand, starters who are not eligible for the World Cup are eliminated for the European championship ranking and are not included in the World Cup ranking.
